Indian National Dies in Tragic New York Fire Incident

A devastating fire incident in Harlem, New York, has claimed the life of a 27-year-old Indian national, identified as Fazil Khan. The Indian Embassy in New York has offered its support, stating that they are in contact with Khan’s friends and family during this difficult time.

The Indian Embassy in New York expressed their sorrow, saying, “Saddened to learn about the death of 27-year-old Indian national Mr. Fazil Khan in an unfortunate fire incident in Harlem, NY. India in New York is in touch with the late Mr. Fazil Khan’s family & friends. We continue to extend all possible assistance in repatriation of his mortal remains to India.”

According to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery at an apartment building in Harlem. The blaze, as reported by CBS News, resulted in 17 injuries and the displacement of dozens of residents.

During the fire, dramatic and rare rope rescues were performed to save trapped individuals. Witness Angie Ratchford described the chaotic scene, stating, “People were coming out of the building. The fire is at the top. Side, you see the police coming down with the people, people jumping out the window.”
