The victims have been identified as a father, his son, and a family friend who were on their way to Florida to pick up a newly purchased vehicle.

The pilot, 44-year-old Daniel Baker of Jackson, was accompanied by his father and 45-year-old Zebulon Logan of Lucasville on the ill-fated journey. Their mission to collect a vehicle in Florida came to a tragic end when their small plane crashed shortly after takeoff. The Jackson County sheriff’s department confirmed the identities of the victims and shared details of the heartbreaking incident.

Details of the Crash

The Piper PA 32 Cherokee Six aircraft went down in a field just a quarter-mile north of the James A. Rhodes Airport. The plane was spotted engulfed in flames, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Despite efforts to extinguish the fire, all three occupants were found deceased at the scene.

Authorities discovered a car belonging to the pilot, Daniel Baker, parked at the airport, adding to the somber narrative of the tragedy. The father of the pilot was listed as Robert Daniel Baker, 78, of Lucasville by the sheriff’s office, while the Ohio State Highway Patrol identified him as Dan Baker, 75, of West Portsmouth.

Investigating the Cause

Following the crash, the Jackson County coroner transported the victims’ remains to the Montgomery County coroner’s office for autopsies.
