EAST CHICAGO Charter School Mourns the Loss of Teacher

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (WISH) — A beloved member of the East Chicago Lighthouse Charter School community, Craig Jones, aged 47 and a resident of Gary, was tragically found deceased in a second-floor stairwell of the school building in the early hours of Friday morning, according to local police reports.

East Chicago Police Department officials were alerted to the distressing incident at approximately 6:40 a.m. on Friday and swiftly launched a thorough investigation. Maintenance staff at the school were the ones who initially discovered Mr. Jones’s lifeless body in the stairwell and immediately alerted the authorities. Despite their best efforts, Mr. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further details emerged as investigators pieced together the events leading up to the discovery of Mr. Jones’s body. It was revealed that on Thursday, Mr. Jones had contacted a family member, informing them that he would be working late and would require a ride home. The concerned family member arrived at the school at around 10:30 p.m. that evening, but Mr. Jones failed to contact them or exit the building. After waiting for a considerable amount of time, the family member eventually left the premises.

It was not until the following morning that Mr. Jones was found by a maintenance worker, prompting a swift response from the authorities. While initial suspicions were raised, the East Chicago Police Department has since indicated that foul play is not believed to be a factor in Mr. Jones’s untimely passing.
