Volusia County Deputy Uninjured After Being Clipped by Passing Vehicle
A deputy in Volusia County, Florida, escaped unharmed after being “clipped” by a passing vehicle while attending to a separate traffic incident, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has reported.
As per a news release, the deputy was dealing with an earlier crash in the DeLand area when a passing van struck him. The incident took place around 2:02 a.m. on North Woodland Boulevard and Melodie Lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The sheriff’s office emphasized the importance of drivers slowing down and giving way to emergency vehicles in such situations. “This deputy is OK, but PLEASE use this as a reminder to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles!” the release stated.
Footage from the deputy’s body camera captured the moment of impact, with the deputy audibly startled by the collision. The video shows the deputy exclaiming “woah” repeatedly before announcing, “I just got hit by a car.”

Following an investigation, the FHP determined the driver of the van, a 38-year-old man from DeLand, to be at fault. The driver was issued several citations in connection with the incident. Fortunately, the deputy was evaluated at the hospital and given a clean bill of health.
