Chandigarh Police Crack Down on Snatching Gang

The Sector 36 police in Chandigarh have successfully dismantled a gang of snatchers operating in the city, with the apprehension of two drug addicts. The accused, identified as Soyab, also known as Golu, a resident of Sector 45, and Beerkha Bahadur, known as Chhotu, were found to be fueling their drug habits through the commission of snatchings in the early hours of the morning, according to police officials.

Following an investigation into a snatching incident on February 22 involving victim Daleep Parsad from Sector 47, where his mobile phone was snatched by a motorcycle-borne assailant on the Sector 35/43 dividing road, police set up a barrier on the Sector 43 road. This led to the arrest of Soyab, who was positively identified by the victim.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple snatchings, including one near the Sector 43 apni mandi. Subsequent questioning led to the recovery of a total of 13 mobile phones, all linked to their criminal activities, as per the police statement.

It was revealed that the accused would borrow motorcycles from acquaintances before targeting unsuspecting pedestrians and cyclists to snatch their mobile phones.

Youth Arrested for Knifepoint Phone Snatching

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man identified as Sunil, a resident of Ram Darbar, was apprehended by the police for snatching mobile phones at knifepoint. His most recent victim, Ritika, also residing in Ram Darbar, reported that he had stolen her mobile phone while brandishing a knife as she was on her way to work at Nexus Elante Mall.

Roadside Vendor Falls Victim to Snatching in Pinjore

In yet another unfortunate incident, a roadside vendor named Raju from Rajasthan had his mobile phone snatched by an unknown assailant near Yadavindra Gardens in Pinjore late one Friday night. The vendor, who made and sold brooms in the vicinity, was attending a phone call when the thief struck from behind, fleeing the scene immediately. A case has been registered at the Pinjore police station under Section 379-A (snatching) of the Indian Penal Code.
