The community of Athens, Georgia, was left in shock and mourning after the tragic death of Laken Riley, a student at Augusta University’s nursing program in Athens, who was killed while jogging at UGA’s intramural fields on Thursday.
UGA Police Chief Jeffrey Clark initially stated that the victim, who was not identified at the time, was not a UGA student but was enrolled in another school. It was later revealed that Riley was a student at Augusta University, with her identity being disclosed to the public on Friday after her family was notified of her untimely passing.
Riley had previously attended UGA until the spring of 2023 before transferring to Augusta University, where she was pursuing her studies in nursing.
