Suspect Arrested for Threatening Emergency Medical Workers with Handgun in Salt Lake City
SALT LAKE CITY — A 23-year-old man was taken into custody in the early hours of Saturday morning after allegedly threatening emergency medical workers with a handgun in Salt Lake City.
Authorities from the Salt Lake City Police Department reported that Gold Cross medics were summoned to a residence near the intersection of 600 East and 2500 South before 3:30 a.m. to attend to a medical emergency.
During the course of treatment, the individual, identified as Sebastian Hernandez, reportedly became aggressive and resisted receiving medical care or being transported to a hospital.
According to court documents, Hernandez attempted to initiate a physical altercation with fire personnel before retreating back inside the property. Subsequently, as two medics were cleaning their ambulance, Hernandez allegedly emerged with a firearm, verbally menacing the medics.

The medics informed law enforcement that Hernandez pointed the gun at them and made threatening statements before they swiftly departed the scene. Hernandez purportedly pursued the ambulance on foot, brandishing the weapon towards the vehicle.
Chief Mike Brown of SLCPD stated, “We condemn any acts of violence or threats against our emergency responders. Regardless of the time of day, our public safety personnel are dedicated to assisting the community. This incident highlights the unpredictable dangers faced by these workers in the line of duty.”
Upon police arrival, the area was secured, and Hernandez briefly exited the residence, refused to comply with authorities, and retreated back inside.
Following the escalation of the situation, SWAT officers and crisis negotiators were summoned to the scene. Hernandez emerged from the property around 4:30 a.m. but continued to defy law enforcement instructions. Authorities resorted to using non-lethal force before Hernandez retreated back indoors. After further negotiations, Hernandez eventually surrendered.
Law enforcement officials disclosed that Hernandez was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. Following medical clearance at a local hospital, he was subsequently incarcerated in the Salt Lake County Jail on numerous charges, including aggravated assault and obstruction of justice.
