Man Arrested for Murder of Woman at Ivy City Hotel

William Barrett, a resident of Northeast DC, has been taken into custody and charged with the murder of Romaine Maddox, 36, who was tragically found dead inside the Ivy City Hotel on Friday morning. Maddox, also from Northeast DC, was discovered with severe trauma to her body, and despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Location of the Incident

The Ivy City Hotel, located in the 1600 block of New York Avenue NE, has unfortunately become the site of yet another violent crime. Last year, a 31-year-old woman lost her life in a random attack at the same hotel, drawing attention to the safety concerns in the area.

Police Response

Authorities were alerted to the situation when a call came in around 11:20 a.m. on Feb. 23 reporting an unconscious person at the hotel. Upon arrival, officers discovered Maddox and immediately began their investigation. It was determined that Barrett, who was acquainted with Maddox, was the primary suspect in the case.

Arrest and Charges

Barrett was apprehended later that same day and has since been charged with first-degree murder. While the police have not disclosed a motive for the attack, the relationship between the suspect and the victim suggests that this was not a random act of violence.
