The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) revealed on Friday (Feb. 23) that Michael Johal, aged 32, has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

The victim, Gagandeep Sandhu, aged 29, was shot on September 16 in an underground parkade near Lougheed Mall in Burnaby.

According to a press release from IHIT, they collaborated with the Abbotsford Police Department and the Federal Serious and Organised Crime Unit to identify Johal as a suspect involved in the plot to murder Sandhu.

Johal was apprehended on Wednesday (Feb. 21) and subsequently charged in connection with the crime.

Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, spokesperson for IHIT, stated that the investigation into Sandhu’s murder is still ongoing, and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Related Arrests and Charges

Prior to Johal’s arrest, police announced that he was one of eight individuals arrested and charged with various drug and weapon offences. In addition to these charges, Johal was also charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

This investigation was spearheaded by the BC RCMP’s federal policing programme and extended across Vancouver, North Vancouver, Delta, Richmond, and Surrey.

Furthermore, the Abbotsford Police Department disclosed that three men from Abbotsford and Surrey had been charged with two counts each of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the ongoing gang conflict in British Columbia.
