Man Arrested in Killing of Nursing Student at University of Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. — (AP) — Authorities have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the murder of a nursing student whose body was discovered on the University of Georgia campus. The suspect, identified as Jose Antonio Ibarra, was taken into custody for the death of 22-year-old Laken Hope Riley, a student at Augusta University College of Nursing. Police have stated that Ibarra did not know the victim, acted alone, and there is no further threat to the university community.

Riley’s body was found near running trails on the campus, prompting a thorough police investigation. Video footage from campus security cameras and other technological evidence led authorities to Ibarra, who resided in an apartment complex close to where the body was discovered, according to University of Georgia Police Chief Jeff Clark.
