Woman Accused of Scamming Cash from ATM in Roanoke Rapids

A woman linked to a previous robbery at a Walmart in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, has been accused of scamming cash from an ATM and transferring funds to Cash App, according to Roanoke Rapids police.

Latest Scam Incident

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported that the recent incident began in January when a Roanoke Rapids resident discovered that their access to their bank account had been altered. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the suspect in the case had used an ATM in Roanoke Rapids to withdraw cash from the account and transfer money to Cash App.

Charges Against Jalissa Slade

32-year-old Jalissa Slade of Roanoke Rapids was arrested in connection with the scam. Slade had previously been arrested for taking over $700 worth of merchandise from a Walmart in the area in January 2023.

Previous Walmart Robbery

During the Walmart robbery, an officer responded to a report of a woman taking a cart full of items without paying. The officer discovered Slade with a 43-inch television and a cart containing $727.26 worth of stolen merchandise. Slade was charged with larceny and had an outstanding warrant for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle from Edgecombe County.

Additional Charges

Following the recent ATM scam incident, Slade now faces charges of felony identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense. Despite previous convictions for larceny, Slade was sentenced to 24 months of probation.

Arrest and Bond

Slade surrendered to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and is currently being held with no bond for her latest charges. The case continues to be under investigation by local authorities.
