Accident – Death – Obituary News : A father and son duo, Jacinto Chavez, 37, and Jeramiah Chavez, 19, have been accused of preying on elderly victims in Southern California by masquerading as home security workers. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office revealed that the thefts occurred between August and November 2023 in Anaheim. Jacinto allegedly impersonated a Brinks Home security worker by donning an official badge during the heists, which targeted vulnerable victims aged between 79 and 88, including a legally blind woman.

The criminal activities came to light on December 11, 2023, when law enforcement responded to reports of a burglary on the 1000 block of West Lomita Boulevard in Harbor City. Subsequent investigations linked Jacinto to the crimes, as he was found to have posed as a Brinks employee by displaying a fake business card on a lanyard around his neck.

Jacinto specifically targeted homes with elderly occupants that prominently displayed security signs outside. Once inside, he would gain the trust of the homeowners and persuade them to allow him to install window guards. However, this was all part of his ruse to pilfer jewelry, cash, credit cards, credit card information, and other personal valuables from the unsuspecting victims.

In one instance, Jacinto’s son, Jeramiah, allegedly assisted him in burglarizing an elderly woman’s home in Anaheim. Following a search of the suspects’ Riverside County residence on January 4, deputies uncovered evidence suggesting that Jacinto may have been involved in numerous other burglaries.

Authorities confirmed that Jacinto was not employed by Brinks Home security, leading to the eventual arrest of both suspects. Jacinto faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree burglary and theft from an elder adult, which could result in a prison sentence of up to 11 years and four months if convicted. Jeramiah, on the other hand, is charged with first-degree burglary and theft from an elder, carrying a potential maximum sentence of six years behind bars upon conviction.

Southern Californians have been cautioned to remain vigilant against individuals posing as employees of reputable companies and knocking on their doors. Captain Damon Jones of LASD’s Carson Sheriff’s Station advised homeowners to be wary of unscheduled visits and to always verify the identity of service providers before granting them access to their homes.

Both father and son have entered pleas of not guilty to the charges brought against them. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for April 9, as authorities suspect that there may be additional victims scattered across Southern California, encompassing Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
