Man Arrested for Intoxication and Assault in North Fifth Avenue Incident

On Friday evening, law enforcement in the North Fifth Avenue area responded to a call regarding a man exhibiting signs of intoxication. The man, later identified as Roberts, was reportedly stumbling on the sidewalk.

Upon arrival, officers noted that Roberts displayed classic signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech and unsteady movements. Despite being instructed to stop, Roberts continued to walk and even attempted to physically confront the officers, swinging a fist in their direction.

As the situation escalated, Roberts allegedly spat on one of the officers and made attempts to kick them multiple times. The officers were forced to restrain Roberts on the ground in order to prevent further aggression.

Following this altercation, Roberts was taken to the hospital for assessment. However, his behavior did not improve, as he reportedly made threats against the officers, stating that they would “die tonight” and that he would harm them. Even within the hospital setting, Roberts continued to resist arrest by attempting to kick the officers.

After being released from the hospital, Roberts was transferred to the Vanderburgh County Jail. It was reported that he threatened to decapitate one of the officers while in custody.

Roberts is now facing multiple charges, including Intimidation, Battery against a Public Safety Official, Public Intoxication, and Resisting Law Enforcement. He is currently being held without bond.
