Edgewood Man Found Guilty of Second-Degree Murder in Joppatowne Homicide

An Edgewood man was convicted of second-degree murder on Wednesday in connection with a tragic homicide that took place in Joppatowne in 2021, as announced by the Harford County State’s Attorney office.

The perpetrator, Alton William Cumbo Jr., aged 30, from Edgewood, was found guilty of killing William James Doran on December 10, 2021, as revealed in a press release issued on Friday.

The unfortunate incident unfolded when deputies responded to a single-vehicle collision report in Joppatowne. Upon arrival at the scene, medics were engaged in performing life-saving measures on William James Doran, a resident of Joppatowne.

Upon further examination, the medics made a shocking discovery that Doran had sustained a fatal gunshot wound under his right eye. Despite their best efforts, Doran succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Prior to the incident, it was reported by The Aegis that Cumbo had allegedly made threats against Doran earlier on the same day. Subsequent investigations by detectives uncovered a series of hostile text messages sent to the victim’s phone from an individual identified as “Reject P,” who was later identified as Cumbo, according to the Harford County State’s Attorney.

Following his arrest by the Harford County Sheriff’s deputies on December 15, 2021, Cumbo was remanded in custody without bail. While in detention, Cumbo reportedly disclosed information about the murder to fellow inmates, leading to the apprehension of his girlfriend, Mahealani Linne Donawa, as mentioned in the State’s Attorney’s news release.

The sentencing for Cumbo is scheduled for April 22, while Donawa has been released on bond and is awaiting trial. No legal representation for Cumbo is listed in online records, and Donawa’s attorney was not immediately available for comment.
