Man fatally stabbed during birthday celebration at Delhi mall

New Delhi: A tragic incident unfolded at a Delhi mall where a 23-year-old private bank employee, Jatin, lost his life during a birthday celebration with friends at a restaurant. The young man was fatally stabbed following a dispute with the restaurant staff, as reported by the police on Thursday. In connection with the incident, the restaurant owner and five others were taken into custody after reviewing CCTV footage.

Events at Pitampura mall

The victim, hailing from Budh Vihar, visited a restaurant in Vardmaan Mall at Pitampura on Wednesday to mark his birthday festivities with friends. However, a disagreement arose between Jatin and the restaurant employees which quickly escalated. The altercation resulted in Jatin being stabbed in the chest, with two of his friends, Varad and Prashan, sustaining injuries while attempting to intervene. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Jatin succumbed to his injuries.

According to a senior police official, “The incident stemmed from a misunderstanding with the restaurant staff which led to a heated confrontation, culminating in the fatal stabbing of Jatin and injuries to his friends.”

Upon receiving a PCR call from BM Hospital at 6.30 am on Wednesday regarding a critically injured man, the police, including ACP Mangolpuri and SHO of Mangolpuri, promptly responded. Initially perceived as an accident, further investigation revealed the altercation at the restaurant during Jatin’s birthday celebration.

FIR lodged, 6 individuals detained

An FIR encompassing pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to murder, was lodged, leading to the detention of six individuals. In light of the severity of the incident, a dedicated team was formed to probe the matter. The team secured CCTV footage, gathered local intelligence, and conducted thorough witness examinations. The investigation remains ongoing, as stated by the police.
