Knox County Sheriff’s Department Reports Incident at Legacy Ford Dealership

CORBIN, KY – The Knox County Sheriff’s Department in the UK issued a statement regarding an incident that took place on Wednesday, 21st February 2024, at around 5:50 AM at the Legacy Ford Dealership parking lot on Cumberland Gap Parkway in Corbin.

According to the report, Deputy Jeremiah Williamson responded to a complaint about a suspicious individual attempting to gain entry into a vehicle at the dealership. The man was later identified as 20-year-old Matthew E. Gray from Corbin, KY.

Upon arrival, Deputy Williamson confronted Gray, who then tried to escape on foot. After a brief pursuit, the deputy managed to apprehend Gray, who then resisted arrest and engaged in a physical altercation.

Following a struggle, Gray was eventually subdued and taken into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Knox County Detention Center.

Charges Faced by Matthew Gray

Matthew Gray was charged with a series of offences, including fleeing or evading police in the 2nd degree, resisting arrest, assault in the 3rd degree against a police officer, and menacing.

During the arrest, authorities discovered a plastic bag containing suspected heroin and another bag of assorted pills in Gray’s possession. As a result, he faced additional charges of possession of a controlled substance in the 1st degree, possession of prescription controlled substances not in the proper container, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Subsequently, Gray was remanded to the Knox County Detention Center pending further legal proceedings.
