Reports indicate that three Palestinian men carried out the operation, opening fire on Israeli vehicles during a traffic jam. One Israeli man was killed, and several others were injured in the attack.

Details of the Attack

Social media images captured one of the Palestinian men brandishing a makeshift Carlo submachine gun on the highway. Israeli forces and armed civilians engaged the attackers, resulting in the death of Kathem Issa Zawahreh, 31, and his younger brother Muhammad, 26, from Beit Taamir in the West Bank.

Another Palestinian, Ahmad Azzam al-Wahsh, was injured and subsequently detained by Israeli forces. The slain Israeli was identified as Matan Elmaliach, 26, a resident of Maaleh Adumim, an illegal Jewish settlement in the West Bank.

Escalation of Violence

The attack comes amidst heightened tensions in the West Bank, with Israeli occupation forces conducting raids and arrests in Palestinian communities. Checkpoints leading to Jerusalem have been closed following the incident, as the region grapples with ongoing violence.

UN Reporting on the Conflict

According to the UN monitoring group OCHA, the recent violence has claimed the lives of both Palestinians and Israelis, including security forces and settlers residing in illegal settlements. The cycle of violence shows no signs of abating, with both sides bearing the brunt of the conflict.
