Investigation Launched into Allegations Against Suspect in Lyon County
LYON COUNTY—Authorities in Lyon County are currently conducting an investigation into multiple allegations against a suspect following an incident that occurred on Tuesday evening.
According to Police Captain Ray Mattas, the incident began just after 9 p.m. when police received a report of gunshots in the 700 block of Neosho Street in Emporia.
Upon arrival at the scene, several officers were dispatched to locate the source of the gunfire. It was during this search that a man, later identified as 33-year-old Juan Cervantes Jr., was found in the vicinity of the gunfire.
Upon seeing the officers, Cervantes attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief pursuit. He was subsequently arrested in the 700 block of Rural.

During a thorough search of the area, officers discovered several shell casings. Additionally, a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputy, making use of a drone, was able to locate a firearm that had been discarded.
As a result of the investigation, Cervantes is currently being held in the Lyon County Jail on a number of requested charges. These charges include Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
