About the Incident
A tragic incident occurred on the Indonesian island of Batam, where a Singaporean woman lost her life in a go-karting accident. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Arini Mohamed Adinan, was enjoying a holiday with friends when the unfortunate incident took place at Golden City Go-Kart in Bengkong.

The Details of the Accident
According to Senior Superintendent Zahwani Pandra Arsyad of the Riau Islands regional police, the accident happened around 3.30pm local time. Arini was seen driving a go-kart car with the number 14 around the circuit when suddenly, the vehicle crashed into the tyre barrier at high speed. Despite no issues during the first round of go-karting, the crash proved fatal for Arini.
The Investigation
It was reported by Indonesian news outlet IDN Times Sumut that Arini did not use a hair net as recommended by the go-kart operator. Zahwani clarified that she was wearing a “shower cap” that came off during the crash, causing her long hair to get entangled in the rear tyre of the vehicle, leading to her tragic death.
Legal Action
The Barelang Resort Police is currently conducting an investigation into the matter. Zahwani emphasized the importance of standard operating procedures at tourist attractions to ensure the safety and well-being of visitors. If negligence is found on the part of the operator, legal action will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
Consular Support
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has been providing consular assistance to Arini’s family through its consulate general in Batam. The management of Golden City Go-Kart has also assisted in repatriating Arini’s body back to Singapore.
