The Tragic Incident in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A judge sentenced the stepmother of six severely abused children to seven to 18 years in prison for failing to intervene to protect the children. Amanda Stamper, 33, spoke in court moments before learning her fate Thursday.

Stamper expressed her remorse, admitting that she should have taken action sooner to protect the vulnerable children. She acknowledged her failure to act, stating that she was in a difficult situation and was consumed by fear.

In a horrifying discovery in June of 2023, Las Vegas Metro police found the six children alone at home. Shockingly, two of the children were locked in a dog cage, with the eldest being just 11 years old. Body camera footage captured the rescue operation, revealing the signs of severe abuse suffered by the children. The allegations of abuse dated back to 2019, according to the Clark County District Attorney’s office.

Stamper’s husband, Travis Doss, known as “Trap Montana,” a failed rapper, was accused of subjecting the children to abuse.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Dena Rinetti revealed that Doss had subjected one of the children to horrific abuse. He kept the child locked in a dog cage for five days, depriving him of food and causing severe malnourishment.

Rinetti highlighted that Stamper failed to protect her stepchildren every single day, with her actions and inactions leaving a lasting impact on the children’s lives.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Stamper pleaded guilty to three felony counts of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment in December. A grand jury had previously indicted her on seven counts of felony child abuse and neglect.

Meanwhile, Doss faced a myriad of charges, including 38 counts of child abuse, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of sex trafficking, and one count of living off the earnings of a prostitute. Stamper was identified as a victim in the sex trafficking case.

Defense attorney Caesar Almase argued for probation, citing the abuse Stamper endured at the hands of Doss, both physically and mentally.

Despite the defence’s plea, Judge Nadia Krall sentenced Stamper to seven to 18 years in prison. Stamper will receive credit for the 257 days she has already served behind bars.

Final Thoughts

Stamper and Doss had a criminal history prior to their arrests, with Doss having an active warrant out of South Carolina for aggravated assault. Stamper was also arrested in connection with a warrant for violating federal probation related to drug charges in Tennessee.

Doss continues to fight his case and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 29.
