The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jesus Castro-Leon, was allegedly caught recording inappropriate videos of a woman at a grocery store in Pleasanton back in December. Further investigation revealed that Castro-Leon had over 250 videos of him recording women without their consent on his phone, as reported by a social media post from the department on Thursday.

In a statement, PPD Lt. Erik Silacci expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation in identifying the suspect. He commended the courageous woman who reported the incident, leading to Castro-Leon’s arrest, and assured that the department is committed to holding him accountable for his actions.

The incident took place on December 1, when Castro-Leon reportedly followed a woman into the bathroom of a grocery store in Pleasanton and proceeded to record her without her knowledge. Upon the woman’s report to the PPD, an investigation was launched, eventually leading to the identification of Castro-Leon through limited security camera footage.

Following public assistance in identifying the suspect, Castro-Leon voluntarily visited the police department on January 4, inquiring about the photos and videos posted on social media. He was subsequently arrested for interfering with a police investigation. Upon seizing his phone, authorities discovered multiple videos of other women, indicating potential incidents across the Tri-Valley region.

After gathering additional information from the phone contents, the Alameda County District Attorney’s office charged Castro-Leon with two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery and invasion of privacy. The court date for the suspect has yet to be confirmed by the DA’s office. PPD continues to urge any potential victims to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation, with the possibility of further charges being filed as more information is gathered.
