Woman Arrested in Fatal Stabbing in Raritan Township

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A woman has been taken into custody following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a man in Raritan Township, Hunterdon County. According to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson, Domonique Preston, a 45-year-old resident of Raritan Township, has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday, Feb. 21, at a residence in the 100 block of Manchester Road in Raritan Township. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a stabbing, where they discovered the lifeless body of a 66-year-old man, identified as Steven Spivey, who had suffered a fatal stab wound. Preston, who is said to reside in the same home, was arrested at the scene by officers.

Following her arrest, Preston was held at the Warren County Correctional Center pending her first court appearance, which took place on Feb. 21. The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Preston pre-trial, in light of the severity of the charges brought against her.

Potential Criminal Penalties

A first-degree murder charge carries significant criminal penalties, including a mandatory state prison term ranging from 30 years to life imprisonment. Third-degree charges may result in imprisonment for a period of three to five years, along with a fine not exceeding £15,000. Fourth-degree charges could lead to imprisonment for up to eighteen months and a fine not exceeding £10,000.

Prosecutor Robeson and Raritan Township Police Chief Alfred Payne commended the efforts of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Raritan Township Police Department for their collaborative work in swiftly apprehending Preston and conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
