Woman and Lover Arrested in Connection with Gang-Rape of Eight-Year-Old in Lucknow

A woman and her alleged lover have been arrested by the UP police in connection with the gang-rape of her eight-year-old daughter in Lucknow, officials revealed on Thursday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava, a man filed a complaint at the Malihabad police station stating that his daughter was raped by two men who teach in a madrasa.

The accused have been identified as Mohammed Abedin and his brother, Mohammad Arshad.

Officials disclosed that the victim’s father, who works in a Gulf country, had been away from India for eight months. During his absence, the victim’s mother entered a relationship with Abedin, who was involved in the rape of her daughter.

Upon the father’s return and discovery of the incident, he promptly reported it to the police. An FIR under section 376D (gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been lodged against the accused.

Police arrested Abedin and the victim’s mother on Wednesday under section 34 (common intention) of the IPC. Efforts are underway to apprehend Arshad, who is currently absconding.
