65-Year-Old Man Arrested in Morganton for Drug Possession

Jack Edward Cresawn, a 65-year-old resident of Pete Brittain Road in Morganton, was apprehended by Morganton Public Safety Officers on Sunday (February 18). He faces charges of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine), as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and violating open container laws.

The arrest took place when a Public Safety Officer was conducting patrols in the vicinity of Enola Road near Pete Brittain Road. The officer observed a silver Kia passenger car exceeding the speed limit, clocking in at 51 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone. The vehicle was pulled over on Pete Brittain Road, with Cresawn identified as the driver. Surprisingly, he did not have his driver’s license on him. Upon further inspection, the officer discovered methamphetamine and a meth pipe in Cresawn’s possession during the traffic stop.

Records from the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website reveal that Cresawn has a history of multiple convictions, all within Burke County, dating back to 1983. The majority of these cases involved misdemeanor charges, with his most recent felony conviction occurring in October 2019 for possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

Following his arrest, Cresawn was taken into custody at the Burke County Jail, where he was held under a $6,000 secured bond. However, as of today (February 22), he was not listed as an inmate at the facility. A first appearance in District Court was set for Monday (February 19), with Cresawn’s next court date scheduled for April 11.
