Woman Arrested in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas — A woman from Hawley, Texas has been taken into custody and charged in relation to a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in Abilene last week.

On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Abilene Police arrested 28-year-old Gabriella Lujan on charges of Second Degree Felony Accident Involving Death and Failure to Stop and Render Aid. The arrest stems from a pedestrian accident that took place on Friday, February 16, 2024, in the 3100 block of Pine Street. Lujan is currently being held in the Taylor County Jail pending further investigation.

The initial incident occurred at 9:40 p.m. when officers from the Abilene Police Department responded to reports of a significant collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in north Abilene. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the pedestrian had tragically lost their life. The victim was later identified as 58-year-old Brenda Ann Janiszewski Jodoin from Virginia.

According to the police report, a vehicle travelling in a northerly direction on Pine Street struck Jodoin, who was in the roadway, and then proceeded to drive away without stopping. The investigation is currently ongoing, with traffic investigators working diligently to gather additional information about the vehicle and the driver that fled the scene.
