The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, a vital route connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, has been shut down for the fourth consecutive day due to the ongoing landslide situation. The closure was a result of a recent landslide at Kishtwari Pather near Banihal, prompting authorities to focus on restoration efforts to clear the road for safe passage.

Following heavy rainfall, multiple landslides occurred between Ramban and Banihal earlier in the week, leading to the initial closure of the highway on Monday. Although partial one-way traffic was allowed on Wednesday, the discovery of another landslide at Kishtwari Pather forced a temporary halt in traffic movement once again.

Authorities are actively working to clear the debris and ensure the safety of travellers along the 270-km long highway. The restoration process is ongoing, with officials estimating that it will take some time to fully reopen the road for regular traffic.
