South Bend Man Leads Police on Pursuit in La Porte County

A man from South Bend led police on a pursuit in La Porte County on Wednesday night, as reported by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the incident took place at approximately 10:42 p.m. A deputy from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office was travelling eastbound on State Road 2 near County Road 400 East when they noticed a vehicle heading in the opposite direction. The deputy’s in-car radar unit indicated that the vehicle was exceeding the speed limit.

When the deputy tried to pull over the vehicle on State Road 2 near County Road 300 East, the driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. The chase took the officers southbound on Fail Road, eastbound on County Road 150 North, northbound on County Road 600 East, and then eastbound on County Road 350 North. The pursuit continued into St. Joseph County, heading northbound on Timothy Road before turning eastbound on State Road 2.

The fleeing vehicle eventually ran over tire deflation devices that had been placed on State Road 2. This caused the vehicle to come to a stop just west of Willow Road. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Christopher J. Orozco from South Bend, was taken into custody.

Orozco was later transported to the La Porte County Jail, where he was arrested for resisting law enforcement and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He is currently held at the jail on a $1,055.00 cash bond set by Circuit Court.
