Junction City Man Arrested in Connection with Wichita Woman’s Death

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) – A Junction City resident has been taken into custody as a suspect in the tragic death of a young woman from Wichita. The suspect, a 38-year-old man, was apprehended by law enforcement officials from the Wichita Police Department’s Community Response Team and Homicide Investigations Unit. The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed at this time.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, Feb. 22, when officers from the Wichita Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 8100 block of E Harry in Wichita. Upon arrival, they discovered 26-year-old Audreanna Hidalgo, a resident of Wichita, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Unfortunately, Hidalgo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Utilizing the FLOCK License Plate Reader System, investigators were able to track the suspect’s movements back to Junction City. Subsequently, the Wichita Police Department collaborated with the Junction City Police Department to apprehend the suspect. The arrest was made without any further complications at approximately 8:32 a.m.

Authorities from the Junction City Police Department have assured the public that there is currently no imminent threat to the safety of residents in either community. The investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing, and law enforcement officials are actively pursuing all leads.
