Man Arrested After Police Chase in Sussex County
BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – A dramatic police chase unfolded in Sussex County, resulting in the arrest of a 41-year-old man on multiple felony charges.
The Delaware State Police Department reported that the incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday when troopers on routine patrol observed a vehicle swerving on John J. Williams Highway near Banks Road.
Despite police attempts to pull over the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Lee Books, refused to stop and initiated a pursuit that spanned from Millsboro to Bridgeville.
The chase finally came to an end on South Main Street in Bridgeville, where law enforcement successfully apprehended Books and a female passenger.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun with a 15-inch barrel, brass knuckles, a 6-inch fixed blade knife, drug paraphernalia found in a woman’s wallet, approximately 56.57 grams of GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate), and additional drug-related items.
While the female passenger was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and released, Books faced a series of felony charges. He was arraigned and remanded to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $36,415 cash bond.
This incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in evading law enforcement and the serious consequences that can follow.
