Tragic Shooting Incident Leaves 1-Year-Old Dead in Wichita

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are currently investigating the tragic homicide of a 1-year-old named Taidyn Anderson in Wichita, according to Wichita Police spokesperson Andrew Ford.

The heartbreaking incident took place just after 7 p.m. on Monday at an apartment in the 2500 block of S. Oliver in Wichita, as reported by Officer Kris Gupilan.

At the scene, first responders discovered three victims of the shooting – two 24-year-old women and Anderson, all from Wichita. They were swiftly transported to a local hospital for treatment.

While the two women sustained critical but non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, the 1-year-old child tragically succumbed to their injuries.

Inside the apartment during the shooting were also a 24-year-old man, a 5-year-old girl, and a 10-month-old girl, all residents of Wichita. Thankfully, they were unharmed during the incident.

Police investigations have revealed that the suspect fired multiple rounds from a handgun into the apartment, targeting the victims. Detectives are diligently following up on leads to apprehend the perpetrator.

Based on the evidence collected so far, authorities believe this was a targeted attack.

Expressing his sorrow and outrage, Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan stated, “The killing of a 1-year-old child is an unspeakable tragedy that has left us all shaken. Our children should be cherished and protected, not subjected to such senseless acts.”
