Man Who died in Police Custody in Prince George’s County identified

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has officially identified the man who tragically died in police custody in Largo, Md., as well as the officers involved in the incident.

According to reports, on the evening of Feb. 16, law enforcement officers responded to a call regarding a “suspicious person” knocking on doors in the 10700 block of Lake Arbor Way at approximately 7:45 p.m. Upon arrival, an officer encountered a man in the middle of the roadway. The individual then proceeded to walk onto a nearby lawn and laid down.

Subsequently, the man was placed in handcuffs by the officers with the intention of transporting him to a hospital for further evaluation. However, he suddenly began experiencing a medical emergency, prompting the officers to provide immediate assistance. Despite their efforts, the man sadly passed away on the scene shortly after.

The deceased individual has been identified as Joseph Holmes, a 61-year-old resident of Clinton, Md. In addition to Holmes, the officers involved in the incident have also been named. They are Corporal Alyssa Tomaselli, Corporal Mark Price, and Officer Marvin Marks, all of whom are part of the Bureau of Patrol within the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Furthermore, Officer Andre Brooks from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Police Department was reported to have been present at the scene during the incident.

As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Holmes’s death, the Independent Investigations Division is working diligently to uncover the truth behind this unfortunate event.
