The driver responsible for the collision, Pavlo Padilla, also known as Pablo, was operating a black 2016 Chevrolet Suburban northbound on Mariposa Road. In a tragic turn of events, Padilla veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a blue 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by Pedro Valencia-Perez, a Barstow resident. Valencia-Perez had three passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Despite efforts to save the occupants of the Toyota, two passengers, Jose Valencia-Saucedo and Rosa Saucedo-Negrete, tragically lost their lives at the scene. A third passenger, Francisco Valencia-Saucedo, sustained major injuries and was transported to a regional trauma center for treatment.

Authorities suspect that drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the collision, leading to Padilla’s arrest on charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing injury/death. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team processing the scene on Mariposa Road.

The community is urged to come forward with any information or witnessed the collision by contacting Deputy F. Zavala, Deputy J. Deberg, or Sergeant B. Motley at the Hesperia Station.
