The Frackville police, in cooperation with the FBI, apprehended Jathaniel Lopez, 22, on Monday at the Turkey Hill Minit Market. The arrest was made following a vehicle stop at 5 p.m. on a car believed to be used by Lopez, and he was taken into custody without incident, as confirmed by the Frackville police.

Lopez had previously been a victim of a shooting incident at the 2022 Musikfest, where he was shot once in the stomach. The shooting was said to have stemmed from a dispute between two groups of people.

Charges and Arrests

After a thorough grand jury investigation, Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan announced in January that a man named Joshua Nathaniel Colon, 22, had been charged with shooting Lopez. Colon faced charges of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, receiving stolen property, and carrying a firearm without a license, among others. It was revealed that Colon was already in state prison on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest.

The grand jury presentment in the case was kept sealed, resulting in limited available details. Holihan expressed disappointment in the level of witness cooperation in the case, describing it as “less than optimal.”

The Musikfest Shooting

The shooting incident at Musikfest took place just as the festival was concluding for the night on its penultimate day, leading to widespread panic among attendees. Witnesses described the chaotic scene as a “stampede,” with police body camera footage capturing the urgent calls for evacuation.

This incident marked the first known shooting incident related to Musikfest since 2014 when two shootings occurred in close proximity to the festival grounds. The aftermath of the shooting left festival-goers shaken and prompted increased security measures for future events.

As the investigation into the 2022 Musikfest shooting continues, authorities are working to ensure the safety and security of all participants and attendees at the annual event.
