One Person Fatally Shot in North Charlotte Near University City
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A tragic incident unfolded in north Charlotte near the University City area on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of one individual. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Dontarious Jerelly Simpson. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that no suspects are currently being sought in connection with the shooting.
The fatal shooting took place at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Berkeley Hill Drive, close to West Mallard Creek Church Road. Upon arrival at the scene, police found Simpson with a gunshot wound. Tragically, despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has launched an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information related to the case to come forward and speak with a Homicide Unit detective at 704-432-TIPS.
