FEBRUARY 21, 2024 (BLOOMFIELD, NEB.) — The Nebraska State Patrol has revealed the identities of the two individuals tragically killed in a shooting that took place on Tuesday in the quiet town of Bloomfield. The victims have been named as Curtis Strom, aged 77, and William Reffett, aged 49, both residents of Bloomfield.

The incident unfolded around 9:30 a.m. when a distressing 911 call was made to Knox County reporting a shooting at Curt’s Lanes and Dining, situated at 112 W. Grant Street in Bloomfield. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Strom and Reffett lifeless, each bearing evident gunshot wounds. The local law enforcement agencies, including the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Bloomfield Police Department, swiftly responded to the scene and sought the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol to conduct a thorough investigation.

Subsequent to preliminary inquiries, two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the heinous crime. Alias Reed, a 25-year-old individual, has been taken into custody on charges of two counts of first-degree murder and robbery. Reed’s partner, Kaylyne Sweazy, aged 27, has also been arrested for tampering with evidence. Reed is currently incarcerated in Knox County Jail, while Sweazy is being held in Antelope County Jail.

Initial investigations suggest that Reed arrived at the bowling alley armed with a shotgun and engaged in a dispute with Reffett, which escalated into violence. Reed fatally shot Reffett and subsequently targeted Strom, who was not involved in the altercation. Reed fled the scene following the incident but was apprehended shortly thereafter as a person of interest. Further probe led to his arrest.

During the course of the investigation, law enforcement officers located the weapon believed to have been used in the double homicide. The firearm was discovered in a ditch several miles west of Bloomfield. It is suspected that Reed and Sweazy travelled together to dispose of the weapon. Additionally, authorities have recovered stolen cash from the bowling alley.

The Nebraska State Patrol has received invaluable support from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Bloomfield Police Department in conducting the ongoing investigation to bring justice to the victims and their families.
