Tragic Rowhouse Fire Claims Life of 84-Year-Old Man in Northwest Washington

Authorities in Washington, D.C. are still investigating the cause of a devastating rowhouse fire that took the life of an elderly man over the weekend. The victim, identified as 84-year-old Charles Glenn, was a resident of the building that caught fire in the Petworth neighborhood.

The fire, which broke out late Saturday evening on Rock Creek Church Road NW, quickly escalated to a three-alarm blaze. According to Vito Maggiolo, a spokesperson for the D.C. fire department, the fire originated on the second floor of the rowhouse.

Reports indicate that a neighbour attempted to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher after noticing smoke and fire coming from Glenn’s apartment. Unfortunately, the neighbour was unsuccessful in their efforts and had to evacuate the building along with several other residents due to the smoke and heat.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and were able to bring the blaze under control within 20 minutes. Tragically, they discovered Glenn unresponsive in his apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a heartbreaking end to the incident.
