Tragic Incident at University of Colorado – Colorado Springs

A student has been arrested after a devastating incident at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (UCCS). Two individuals, identified as Samuel Knopp and Celie Rain Montgomery, both Colorado natives, were found dead in a dorm room on Friday morning. The victims, a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, suffered from at least one gunshot wound each.
Suspect Known to Victims
Authorities revealed that the suspect, 25-year-old Nicholas Jordan, was acquainted with the victims. Mr. Knopp, an accomplished guitarist studying music at UCCS, was known to the suspect. The university confirmed that the suspect, originally from Detroit, Michigan, is also enrolled at UCCS.

Mr. Jordan was apprehended on Monday morning after being found in a car in the city. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is currently being held on $1 million (£794,000) bond in El Paso County Jail.
Campus Response
Following the tragic incident, the university cancelled classes on Monday and organized a “healing” walk. Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet acknowledged the need to rebuild trust and safety on campus, emphasizing that it will take time for the community to heal.
Haden Gillespie, roommate of Mr. Knopp, expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “We’re all in this together. I just want everyone to know that I love you and we’ll get through it together.”
Lockdown and Safety Measures
Although the campus went into lockdown for several hours, authorities confirmed that the shooting was not considered an active incident. Colorado Springs, located near the base of the Rocky Mountains, has a population of approximately 480,000 people.
