Mumbai Police Rescues One-Year-Old Boy Allegedly Sold for Rs 40,000

Mumbai, 20th February: In a shocking incident, the Mumbai police recently rescued a one-year-old boy who was allegedly sold to a couple in Raigad district for a sum of Rs 40,000. This heart-wrenching case has left many in disbelief, and the police have taken swift action by booking seven individuals, including the boy’s own parents.

The distressing situation came to light when the couple who purchased the child attempted to admit him to Wadia hospital, seeking treatment for his abdominal pain. Hospital authorities grew suspicious when the couple failed to provide any valid documents pertaining to the child’s identity or his parents.

The accused couple, identified as Parashuram Chougle (52) and Malti Chougle (48), along with the boy’s parents, Chandrakant Waghmare and Shewanti Waghmare, have been implicated in this disturbing case. Additionally, Laxmi Patil, Deepti Pavse, and Bhaskar Cholkar have also been named as accomplices in the crime.

According to reports from Hindustan Times, the Chougles, residents of Wadvali village in Shrivardhan taluka of Raigad district, had been longing to have a child for over 30 years. In September last year, Malti Choughle’s sister, Laxmi Patil, informed her about a neighbour named Chandrakant Waghmare who was willing to part with his one-year-old son.

Deepti Pavse, who had been entrusted with caring for the child, expressed her reluctance to keep him, prompting Patil to suggest the adoption to her sister and the Chougles. Pavse claimed that she had purchased the child from Waghmare for Rs 50,000 but was now willing to sell him to the Chougles for Rs 40,000 due to the child’s continuous crying and unhappiness.

After paying an advance of Rs 5,000 in the presence of witnesses, the Chougles brought the boy home and named him Sai. However, his health deteriorated, leading them to seek medical attention at Wadia Hospital.

The hospital’s suspicions triggered a police investigation, resulting in the booking of all involved parties under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Child Protection Act. This distressing incident sheds light on the dark world of child trafficking and exploitation, emphasizing the need for stricter laws and enforcement to protect vulnerable children.
