Police in Pattaya, Thailand are currently investigating a disturbing incident involving a Chinese woman who claims she was deceived and assaulted in a wooded area, with the assailant attempting to silence her by setting fire to the grass around her.

Authorities were alerted to the situation when reports came in that a young Chinese woman had been lured and attacked in the forest behind the Siam Country Club Golf Course, located near Highway 2081 in Pong Sub-District, east Pattaya. Upon arriving at the scene, police found themselves in a dark, grassy area next to a cassava field, where a fire had scorched a large swath of grass spanning over 70-80 meters in width.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Ms. Menglin from China, was discovered alongside her 19-year-old brother, Chen, who had accompanied her. Ms. Menglin appeared distressed, with dishevelled hair and marks on her wrists indicating that she had been bound.

According to Ms. Menglin’s account of the incident, she and her brother had hitchhiked along Route 331 when they were offered a ride by two Thai men on motorcycles. A dispute between the two men led to chaos, and one of them led Ms. Menglin into the forest, where he attempted to assault her but was unsuccessful. The assailant then proceeded to smear lotion on her body in an attempt to destroy any fingerprints, before pouring oil around the grass and setting it on fire in an apparent effort to trap her.

Upon initial investigation, Ms. Menglin displayed signs of anxiety and trauma. Superintendent Pol. Lt. Col. Jirasak Absang of Nongprue Police Station, along with Superintendent Pol. Lt. Col. Piyaphong Ensarn of Tourist Police Pattaya, conducted an on-site inquiry and questioned Ms. Menglin to gather more information.

In their quest for justice, authorities have planned to conduct thorough examinations of Ms. Menglin’s injuries at the hospital, as well as review CCTV footage along the route described by Ms. Menglin. Their commitment to uncovering the truth and taking appropriate action in the investigation is unwavering.
