The victims, Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Samuel Knopp, 24, were discovered deceased in a dormitory at the university, located about 69 miles south of Denver. Montgomery, who was not currently enrolled at the school, and Knopp, a student at the university, were both shot at least once, according to authorities.
Arrest and Investigation
Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, the police’s motor vehicle theft unit located Jordan in a vehicle, and the tactical enforcement unit apprehended him in Colorado Springs. The police emphasized that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident involving individuals who were acquainted with each other, rather than a random attack on campus.
The university’s dormitory, Creston House, was the scene of the shooting, where the police responded to reports of gunfire early on Friday morning. A campus-wide lockdown was implemented for 90 minutes, and the university remained closed over the weekend, with Monday classes being canceled as the school provided walk-in counseling services for students and staff.
Community Response
The tragic event prompted an outpouring of support from the university community, with dozens gathering for a memorial walk on campus. The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, which boasts a student population of over 11,000 and nearly 2,000 faculty and staff members, expressed its condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
