Tragic Shooting in Blairsville Leaves 85-Year-Old Man Dead

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — In a shocking incident, an 85-year-old man, Wendall Cross, was fatally shot after a shootout with deputies in Blairsville, Georgia. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that the tragic event unfolded just after 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Union County deputies were called to respond to a domestic incident involving Cross, who was armed at the time. Despite their attempts to negotiate with him, Cross opened fire on the deputies when they instructed him to drop his weapon. In self-defense, deputies returned fire, striking Cross.

Following the shootout, Cross was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Thankfully, no deputies were harmed during the confrontation.

The GBI is currently conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the sequence of events and the circumstances that led to the tragic outcome.
