Tragic Incident in Lower Makefield Township Leaves Woman Dead

In a shocking incident in Lower Makefield Township, a woman lost her life in a brutal attack. The tragic event unfolded when an officer witnessed a man, later identified as Weigel, chasing a woman and violently attacking her. The officer intervened to stop the assault, but the man fled the scene towards I-295.

Two other officers joined the pursuit, tracking down Weigel as he attempted to evade capture by climbing over a fence. Despite their efforts, the man began harming himself by stabbing his own neck. The officers had to break through the fence to apprehend him.

The victim, identified as Battista, received immediate medical attention, but unfortunately, all life-saving efforts were in vain. She was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Weigel, the perpetrator of the heinous crime, sustained injuries during the incident and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite his self-inflicted wounds, he is expected to survive. Following the investigation, a knife believed to be the weapon used in the attack was recovered along the path of Weigel’s escape.

Weigel was subsequently arrested and is currently being held without bail on charges of murder. The authorities emphasised the seriousness of domestic violence situations, urging individuals to seek help if they or someone they know is experiencing abuse. The officer who witnessed the tragic incident had prior experience in high-risk environments, having served in Iraq and worked in a demanding area as a Philadelphia police officer before joining the Lower Makefield Township police force.
