Culver Man Killed in Train Collision in Marshall County, Indiana

A tragic incident occurred in Marshall County, Indiana, on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a Culver resident. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a distress call just before 9 a.m. reporting a collision between a vehicle and a train on State Road 17, south of 15th Road in Burr Oak.

The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Scott Sorg, who was driving a 2005 Ford Escape northbound on State Road 17 at the time of the accident. It is believed that Sorg disregarded the downed crossing arms at the railroad tracks and entered the path of a westbound train.

Following the impact, the Ford Escape was forcefully thrown to the west side and eventually came to a stop approximately 100 yards west of State Road 17, on the south side of the tracks. Tragically, Sorg was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. While it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident, authorities are working diligently to determine the cause of the tragic event.
