Two Arrested in Connection with Homicide in Brandon

Brandon police have made significant progress in a homicide investigation that dates back to August 2023. The incident took place in an alley located in the 400 block of 12th Street in Brandon, where a tragic event unfolded just before midnight.

The victim, identified as 37-year-old Ryan Daryl Benson, was found by officers with multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts to save him, Benson succumbed to his injuries.

Details of the Incident

Investigations revealed that Benson had been involved in an altercation with two individuals in an apartment in the area earlier that night. The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the two suspects produced weapons.

Benson was fatally stabbed during the altercation, while one of the suspects, a male youth, sustained injuries to his hand.

Arrests Made

On February 15, 2024, the police obtained warrants and proceeded to a residence in St. Rita, Man., where they apprehended a 21-year-old man. He has since been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Benson’s death.

The second suspect, a 16-year-old male, voluntarily surrendered to authorities and is also facing charges of second-degree murder.

Court Appearances

Both suspects are scheduled to make their initial court appearances on Monday, where the charges against them will be addressed. It is important to note that these charges have yet to be tested in court.
