Maryland State Police are reaching out to the public for help in the investigation of a tragic fatal shooting that took place on Friday in Wicomico County. The incident occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. in the 900 block of North Division Street in Salisbury, Maryland.

The victim, identified as Richard Darlington Smith, 49, of Salisbury, Maryland, was walking down the street when he was tragically shot multiple times. Emergency medical service personnel arrived on the scene and declared Smith deceased. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit has taken the lead on this investigation, with assistance from the Salisbury Police Department.

Investigators are urging residents in the North Division Corridor, which includes the New Town, Johnson Lake, and Emmerson Avenue neighborhoods, to come forward if they have external surveillance cameras. They are specifically looking for footage captured between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024.
