Chase and Arrest of the Suspect

After learning about the robbery from the clerk, the officer sprang into action. The suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Jordan M. Kennedy from Lake Villa, had attempted to pay for a couple of charging cords using his phone. When the transaction failed, Kennedy allegedly grabbed more cords and tried to leave the store without paying, with the total value of the items exceeding $100.

As the clerk confronted Kennedy, he brandished a box cutter, prompting the officer to intervene. Despite Kennedy’s attempts to flee, he was eventually caught by the authorities. During the scuffle, one of the officers sustained a minor injury to his hand.

Identification and Confession

The clerk positively identified Kennedy as the culprit, who was found in possession of a crack pipe and admitted to consuming crack earlier that day. Following his arrest, Kennedy made unsolicited remarks about the incident, mentioning keywords like “Speedway,” “box cutter,” and “iPhone charging cables.”

Court Proceedings and Detention

During a court hearing, Kennedy’s defence attorney highlighted his client’s background in the National Guard and aspirations to study chemical engineering at college. However, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Kennedy until trial, citing him as a potential danger to the community.
