Accident – Death – Obituary News : Elgin, MN (KROC-AM News)- A serious accident caused major traffic delays on a highway in southeast Minnesota over the weekend.

The incident took place at approximately 11:20 on Sunday morning, involving three vehicles, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The crash occurred at the junction of Hwy. 42 and Wabasha County Rd. 25 just north of Elgin. A Jeep traveling west on County Rd. 25 was crossing the intersection when it was hit by a southbound SUV. Additionally, a second SUV stopped at the intersection in the eastbound lane of County Rd. 25 was also involved in the collision.

One of the passengers in the Jeep, 19-year-old Katrina Marie Jirik from Edina, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene before being released. The driver of the Jeep, identified as 20-year-old Nicholas Edward Sachs from Dublin, OH, was unharmed. The two SUV drivers, 26-year-old Rose Camille Staloch and 44-year-old Scot William Engler, both from Elgin, also escaped without injuries.

Authorities confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the crash and all occupants were wearing seat belts. The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office advised motorists to avoid the intersection, and emergency responders were present at the scene for approximately an hour.

In addition to the State Patrol and Sheriff’s Office, Plainview Ambulance, Plainview Fire Department, and the Plainview Police Department were also on hand to assist with the situation.
