Delay in Trial for Arizona Man Charged with Murder of Pregnant Woman in Kent

The trial for an Arizona man accused of murder in the shooting death of a pregnant woman in Kent has been postponed. Dawan Rahman Wilson, 44, was originally scheduled for a jury trial on February 27, but it has now been rescheduled for September 23, according to records from Portage County Common Pleas Court.

On the same day, Judge Laurie J. Pittman approved a motion for Wilson’s attorney to withdraw from the case, with a new attorney appointed to represent him.

The incident took place on November 21 when Kent Police responded to a call from a neighbour reporting screams and gunshots at a home on South Water Street. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of 35-year-old Cheretta Frierson, who was pregnant at the time.

Frierson, who had recently moved from Arizona to stay with a family member in Kent, was found dead in the home. Two children, a young girl and an infant boy, were also present at the time of the incident but were unharmed.

Following an investigation, Wilson was identified as a suspect, leading to his arrest in Texas and subsequent extradition to Ohio. He has been remanded in Portage County Jail without bail, with strict orders not to contact Frierson’s family.

Another individual, Akron resident Michael Deshawn Lollar, 37, was also implicated in the case as the driver of the vehicle that transported Wilson to and from the crime scene. Lollar was arrested in Akron and is currently awaiting trial on March 19, with a bond set at $2 million.

Wilson has been indicted on four counts of aggravated murder and one count of first-degree felony aggravated burglary, all with firearm specifications. Lollar faces four counts of complicity to aggravated murder and one count of first-degree felony complicity to aggravated burglary.

The charges against both men include the shooting death of Frierson and the “unlawful termination” of her pregnancy.
