Football Coach Arrested for Murder in Maryland
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A football coach from Spalding County has been arrested in connection with the murder of his girlfriend in Maryland on Saturday, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
Carl Kearney, Jr., a 43-year-old resident of Griffin and the head football coach at Spalding High School, walked into the Division V Clinton police station and confessed to officers that he had strangled his girlfriend that morning at her Accokeek home, officers from the department said.
Murder Confession
The victim, identified as 38-year-old Patrina Best, was found unresponsive by officers who responded to the home located in the 800 block of St. James Court. Best was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
During questioning by detectives, Kearney admitted to strangling the victim during an argument. He now faces charges of first and second-degree murder along with related offenses.
