Body of 60-Year-Old Man Recovered from Rock River in Rockford

Rockford, Illinois – The body of a 60-year-old man, identified as Larry Sanford of Rockford, was discovered floating in the Rock River on Sunday. The incident was reported by a concerned resident who spotted the body in the water near Indian Terrace.

Emergency services, including the Rockford Fire Department and Rockford Police Department, were quick to respond to the call, which came in around 3 p.m. Neighbors in the area were shocked by the discovery, with one witness, Michael Mullins, recounting the moment when he and his wife first saw the body.

Mullins described the chilling moment, saying, “We were down by the river and my wife glanced down there and she said ‘that’s a body.’ We went and looked at it, and it appeared to be a body. We called police and fire, and they came out with the police boat, and they took a body away.”

Authorities have not released information on how long Sanford had been in the river before his body was found. Autopsy results are currently pending, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
